Becoming a Herefordshire Headway Trustee.

Many people wishing to become involved as a volunteer in Headway will be able to give of their time in direct caring, or supporting our day to day activities. However there are others who are equally willing to get involved but are limited in time or physical capacity to be involved directly with our clients. Volunteering to become a Trustee may be the opportunity you are looking for.

We are always keen to expand the Board of Trustees and especially welcome people with different skills and from many backgrounds.   We try to have a wide representation of people to ensure that we have input from people of all ages, ability, sex and race.

All Trustees receive an Induction Pack fully explaining the roles and responsibilities . There is also a great deal of information available on the Charity Commissions website at www.charitycommissions.gov.uk

Being a Trustee does not always require prior experience and skills, we also welcome people who are able to give their time and enthusiasm.

We expect that a Trustee will give a small amount of commitment to attend meetings etc and everything discussed in meetings is treated with the strictest of confidence.

We are always in need of people with the following experiences:-

    • A Carer of someone with a disability.
    • Work experience in a Primary Care Trust or Local Authority.
    • Work experience in Health or Social Care.
    • Local community involvement
    • Business skills and financial management

Board meetings are held every month Headway House, usually on the third Wednesday of the month between 4pm and 6pm. The Board has a full yearly schedule of responsibilities which include:-

  • Reviewing and agreeing business plans strategies and policies.
  • reviewing accounts
  • examining and developing fundraising actions
  • monitoring standards of service
  • agreeing Budgets and Staff Salaries
  • Items required under Charity & Company law
  • providing oversight and support to the Charity Director and staff teams

Trustees may also be asked to lead initiatives which relate to their own areas of expertise such as education, human resource management, business or estates management, quality standards review or policy making.

One of our Trustees act as Treasurer to oversee our financial affairs, another will be involved in activities relating to our company business as designated Company Secretary.
