Computing

Using computers at HeadwayRight from the outset, Herefordshire Headway has tried to offer group members the opportunity to acquire new skills as part of the rehabilitation process following a severe brain injury.

Computing is an ideal vehicle to develop new skills, especially when allied to the internet; it provides the opportunity to communicate on a level playing field, where communication problems have arisen. Frequently group members have found that where as before their injury, they hadn't the time to develop computing skills, the facility at Headway provides an ideal gentle introduction into the complex world of computing. Group Members can work at a pace suited to their individual ability, assisted by the staff and volunteers when needed.

Chris Morgan, Headways computer tutor.

"Learning through computing after a Brain Injury and being able to communicate with others by e-mail can open up a new world for people who have lost the ability of speech. Playing a wide range of games helps improve concentration and co-ordination. For many learning a new skill improves confidence; people also find they can discover hobbies such as photography, card making, and listening to music."
